Florencia Lozano first joined the cast of One Life to Live as kick-butt-take-names lawyer Tea Delgado in 1997. After a three year stint on the show (and a brief return in 2002), Florencia re-entered Llanview as Tea late last year. Tea's complicated relationship (and illegal marriage) to Todd, her awesome rivalry with Blair, and now the revelation that she has a secret child with Todd have taken center stage on One Life to Live.
We sat down with Florencia -- who is totally awesome -- to talk about OLTL, her new film, and what Tea would name her mansion.
So you've been back on OLTL for a little under a year. Are you enjoying it? Are things going well?
It's been a blast. I had been off for a little while when I did this film, The Ministers [just out in limited release]. When I was working on the movie, I really appreciated having been on a soap because when you move as fast as we move, you develop muscles and confidence and a level of, like, "Let's just do this thing" without too much hesitation or fear that really served me well. Kind of stepping up to the plate and going "Alright, let's hang on to each other for dear life and go for it." Because now we're doing a lot more work in one day than when I first started.
The amount of material taped every day is unbelievable.
It's kind of improv, in a way, with the moment-to-moment [of] what happens.
Is that exciting though? Does that keep you on your toes?
When I get to work [with] Trevor [St. John, who plays Todd], who thrives on that -- and he is so game for that. He tries all kinds of unexpected things. He's really, really smart. He really understands the form and he's just a really smart guy and actor. I've been lucky. So when you're with a partner like that it's kind of a treat and I feel sort of protected. And then Kassie [DePaiva, who plays Blair] ... I mean, she's just a hoot first of all.
It's definitely passion of a different kind on screen when you guys are together. Todd and Tea's scenes are very fiery -- whether it's sort of in the positive, romantic way or they're screaming at each other. But we also find that Blair and Tea are like that too. Well, minus the romance. It's just very high energy.
We're really kind of different as people -- but I think we make a really good match. I love Kassie. I think there is a really profound connection between Blair and Tea buried under all this that we both never lose sight of. But it kind of makes us rip into each other even more. And I love acting with her.
